When Muslim fundamentalists destroy a vital Soviet oil complex, the USSR decides to seize the Persian Gulf. To prevent NATO from intervening, they launch a massive deception campaign that leads to World War III.
Before 'Call of Duty', there was this book. It depicts a conventional WWIII in Europe. What makes it gripping is the realism. Clancy focuses on the logistics, the technology, and the strategy. You see the war from the cockpit of a fighter jet and the sonar room of a submarine. It is tense, intelligent, and frighteningly plausible.
